Comic Related Art
In the Beginning, There were
comics…. sorta of…
The earliest art was work that told stories. You can
see the paintings in the caves that tell of heroic
battles. In today’s world, comics have gotten a really
bad rap. “It’s not REAL art.” Well, I think that’s just
hog wash.
Many of these images have been
made as illustrations for comic works. There are
images from the graphic novels I’m working on (I
really need to quit my day job) I Believe in Jim Jones
& This World is Sick. “A Woman Dies…” was done as
a fine art piece, but it is meant to tell the story of the
death of Jean Bapiste Grenouille’s mother (the book,
Perfume).I wanted a way of telling it all. “Adam &
The Rapture” is a painting, but is rooted in my
friend’s true story. I’m not going to lie- sometimes
comic art can become generic, but I have seen some
true acts of art in the pages of comic books. Don’t
discount the whole medium.
